When I was in Virginia a couple weeks ago, the theme of the week was the amount of ticks we were running into. It was kinda funny, other than the threat of lime disease, because there were these 'Tick Habitat' signs posted on the trees along the road. Those signs were too amusing and just thinking about them still makes me laugh. It makes me think in very heavy sarcasm, "Watch out for those endangered ticks in those woods out there!" *snort*
Last week in Delaware, the theme of the week was the amount of worms in the soil as we excavated. I have never seen so many worms! They were all Earth Worms and they were numerous. I tried to save as many of them as I could from getting crushed through the screen, but it was simply impossible to get them all...hundreds and hundreds of worms. I think my twitter comment for that was: "This week, in a northern corner of the mighty state of Delaware, a lot of worms died" *can't help but giggle, poor bastards*
This week in Maryland, the theme of the week is poison ivy. Oh my gawd, if I make it out of here without getting a scathing body-covered rash of poison ivy, it will be a miracle. There seems to be no ground anywhere we are digging that isn't crawling with poison ivy. To top that fun, there are also briars everywhere. My clothes are already shredded, my arms and legs covered in scratches. My clothes will have to literally be falling off my body before I will go buy new ones, but there is a thrift store outside of our project area that looks promising

However, despite all of that and through all of that, I am enjoying life. I freaking LOVE Archaeology! In some weird way, dealing with all of that adds to the adventure

And I LOVE my field crew. They are all so freaking cool! We also have been staying in some pretty cool places. Right now we are staying in a hotel in Maryland that is right on the water, next to a marina full of boats and life. It is a paradise here where people come to vacation. This particular project is going to last 5 weeks and no matter how much poison ivy there is in the dig area, 5 weeks isn't going to be long enough! I never knew Maryland was such a beautiful place. It reminds me of home. So, bring it on poison ivy and briars because you cannot dampen my spirits here!
